This workshop will give you everything you need to know about hiring employees and complying with all of the applicable laws and regulations. You will learn:
• The difference between contractors and employees
• The laws and regulations that apply to hiring employees
• Which government posters you will need to post
• The paperwork you will need to bring a new employee onboard
• What you can and cannot ask on application forms and in interviews
• How to do background checks legally
• Whether to have an employment agreement
• Whether to have an employee handbook
• How to compensate employees in compliance with the wage/hour laws

• A formula to help you successfully plan your fabric ordering to meet your sampling/production needs
• Discussing the process to properly request payment terms for fabric orders
• The ins + outs of developing custom prints + colors

Presenter: Leo Rosario
Leo Rosario studied at FIT and has worked for over 25 years in the fashion industry, primarily in New York, for major labels including, Zero + Maria Cornejo, Isaac Mizrahi, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. Leo teaches Fabric and Fiber Technology and Introduction to Fashion Manufacturing at the San Francisco Academy of Art and is co-founder of Vida3, a consulting agency specializing in fashion and textile development, and production management.
