The Manufacturing Workforce and Hiring Manager is a brand new position at SFMade, and dedicated to one of the most important elements of our work; helping member companies sustain and grow a diverse workforce and hire from the local community. He or she will plan, market, direct and evaluate a comprehensive and growing suite of Workforce and Hiring programs and services, including our signature “Hiring Made Better” and “Youth Made” programs. The primary goal of this position is to help SFMade member companies make more effective, swift and thoughtful hires, and deeply connect into their surrounding local communities to find skilled and talented workers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manufacturing Workforce and Hiring Manager will assume overall management of SFMade’s Workforce and Hiring programs and contribute to the innovative and strategic vision of the organization. The successful candidate will:

  • Engage SFMade companies in active participation in all of the Workforce and Hiring programs, through outreach, promotion and education.
  • Provide one-on-one consulting to SFMade member companies to help clarify their hiring needs, assist with crafting job descriptions, and refer to specific HR and legal counsel.
  • Develop a new and innovative Youth Apprenticeship/Job Placement program. Recruit SFMade member companies and place youths in a variety of production, administration and sales positions.
  • Assist SFMade member companies to file for Enterprise Zone tax credits and participate in other incentive programs.
  • Collect all job descriptions, promote via SFMade Job Board, and disseminate to partner organizations.
  • Maintain and create key relationships with community partners, including workforce agencies and educational institutions.
  • Gather and analyze detailed workforce data. Prepare statistical and narrative reports.
  • Administer a California Employment Training Panel program, which provides funding specifically for the training and re-training of employees.
Qualifications/Experience

A Bachelors degree and a minimum of 5 years experience in economic development preferred. Direct experience with small business and workforce development programs and/or recruiting for production roles in private sector companies, is highly desirable.

The candidate must be an entrepreneurial go getter who is able to wear many hats and perform tasks ranging from public speaking to data entry. The candidate must also be comfortable and effective working with people across the breadth of San Francisco’s socio economic spectrum .

This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must have the ability to see the big picture and think strategically, as well as pay attention to the minutest detail.

Project management experience is mandatory.

Chinese language skills are a big plus.
