On June 9, 2023, during our first Here/Now event, we named our very first Manufacturer of the Year.
Selected from our SFMade community of more than 400 local manufacturers, the honor went to Azikiwee Anderson, founder of Rize Up Bakery.
Rize Up Bakery has become a cornerstone of San Francisco’s food manufacturing scene, known not only for its quality but also for its deep roots in community, culture, and resilience. Azikiwee’s journey reflects the spirit of so many local makers: they started baking on their back porch, started as a side business, and grew their business with bold ideas and a belief in building something meaningful that could make a difference.
At the event, Azikiwee shared a reflection on what this recognition meant:
“I cannot tell you how incredibly fortunate I feel to have the support from our community of hard-working small businesses and SFMade, which helps us all stay in San Francisco and make our business dreams come true. SFMade people showed up when I was making bread on my back porch, gave me positive feedback, and made me feel that my crazy ideas and my dreams were attainable. Their care, attention to detail, and how they made me feel that I could do it, have been the wind under my wings."
